Divisions - General Information
The City of Vicksburg Police Department consists of over seventy eight full-time personnel working in seven divisions to provide you with the highest level of public safety and emergency assistance. Each division helps to provide a different aspect of protection for you and your family. These divisions are:
Patrol - this largest division of the force is comprised of uniformed officers who patrol the city to insure public safety and respond to emergency calls for assistance.
Traffic - this division of uniformed officers is responsible for keeping the streets of the city safe for all motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians. They also assist on emergency calls.
Detectives - this division is assigned to cases involving the murder or death of an individual, thefts, kidnappings, or other crimes where investigation is required to identify suspects or gather information following an initial police report.
Crime Scene - this division specializes in the examination of technical and scientific evidence, such as firearms, fingerprints, and bloodstains.
Narcotics - this division specializes in cases involving illegal drugs, particularly the proffering of these elements to the public.
Internal Affairs - this special division investigates claims of police misconduct or matters where the integrity of public officials is in question.
Juvenile Division - this division Specializes in the investigation of juvenile crimes and status offenses.
