Warrants
There are two kinds of warrants, criminal arrest warrants and search warrants, that can be issued by either the City of Vicksburg Police Department or the Municipal Court Judge. Criminal arrest warrants can be issued when there is reasonable cause to suspect an individual of a misdemeanor or felony crime. Arrests result in imprisonment until a bond is set by the magistrate and paid. Search warrants can also be issued by the police, magistrate, or courts. Search warrants permit government officials to search and seize personal property specified in the search warrant. If you have cause to obtain a warrant for an individual or property, you must report the crime or violation to the City of Vicksburg Police Department and obtain a case number. The crime or violation must have occurred within the City limits of Vicksburg. Once you have received a case number, you must go to the Vicksburg Police Department’s main office and sign an affidavit. After swearing under oath to the contents of the deposition, a magistrate will determine if legal grounds exist to issue a warrant. If there are legal grounds, the warrant will be issued. Once an arrest has been made and the case has been set for trial, you will be served a subpoena to appear and testify. Realize that your failure to appear in court will subsequently result in a warrant for your arrest.
Both types of warrants are served by the City of Vicksburg Police Department. For more information about arrest and search warrants, or to obtain a warrant, contact the City of Vicksburg Police Department’s main offices, located at 820 Veto Street, between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM Monday through Friday, or call them at (601) 636-2511.
