Home buyer Education

Home-buyer(s) assisted with the City of Vicksburg's program funds are required to attend a homebuyer education class which consists of approximately 8 hours of homeownership education counseling. Through this course, participants will have the advantage of buying a home with the confidence that comes with education and knowledge of current housing options. An added bonus is that lenders statewide will recognize the certificate you'll receive after attending the Homebuyer Education Program.

  • Those participating will learn:
  • Are You Ready to Buy a Home?
  • Managing your Money
  • Understanding Credit
  • Obtaining a Mortgage Loan
  • Shopping For a Home
  • Protecting Your Investment
  • And Much More!

Two (2) City of Vicksburg housing office employees, Resell Williams, are certified by NeighborWorks of America, a national organization for homebuyer education counseling and Mississippi Community Financial Access Coalition, a non-profit and financial education boot camp, to teach financial literacy.

The nationally accredited standardized curriculums were developed by NeighborWorks of America and are approved by HUD. Several classes are held per year, usually one per month, on a Saturday from 9:00am to 4:30pm at a designated location (usually the Warren County-Vicksburg Public Library). Space is limited therefore participants must pre-register. Each applicant is notified by phone and/or via US postal service mailouts. A certificate of completion is issued to participants who attend all 8 hours. The certificate expires after 1 year.

To find out about the next Homebuyer Education class and/or to register please call Carolyn Harrison (Housing Director) at 601-634-4528.
