The Community Development Division is divided into five (5) departments, Building Code Department, Code Enforcement Department, Zoning & Business License Department, Housing Department and Planning Department.

The Community Development Division is one of nine (9) divisions of the City of Vicksburg with a certified staff that stands ready to serve the City of Vicksburg. Our goal is to provide for the Vicksburg Community by: having minimum requirements to safeguard the public health, safety and general welfare through the enforcement of adopted building codes and other developmental codes and ordinances; improving the livability and quality of our neighborhoods through thoughtful community planning and zoning; protecting our rich architectural and environmental history through historic preservation; helping our citizens to reach the dream of home ownership; having a business friendly environment that reflects the City's willingness to help foster business and economic development; creating and maintaining a neighborhood environment that promotes a safer and more aesthetic community.


Services Provided by the Building & Inspection Code Department

  • Provide a comprehensive plan review procedure for all new construction.
  • Provide a thorough inspection process for all residential and non-residential structures.
  • Enforcement of the Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance.
  • Enforcement of the Felony Dumping Law.
  • Enforcement of the Dumpster Enclosure Ordinance.
  • Enforcement of other City ordinances’ that impact the aesthetic and environmental quality of the City of Vicksburg.

Services Provided by the Zoning & Privilege License Inspection Department
 
  • Enforcement and interpretation of the zoning ordinance.
  • Issuance of privilege license.
  • Site inspections related to the issuance of a privilege license.
  • Maintain the zoning ordinance.
  • Serve as secretariat to the Zoning Board.

Services Provided by the Historic Preservation Department

  • Maintenance of the Historic Preservation Ordinance.
  • Enforcement and interpretation of the Historic Preservation Ordinance.
  • Serve as the secretariat to the Board of Architectural Review (BOAR).

Services Provided by the Community Planning Department

  • Maintains the Comprehensive Plan, Capital Improvements Programs, and Subdivision Regulations.  Community Planning is a key component in the administration of public policy for the orderly growth and physical development of the City.

Services Provided by the Historic Preservation Department
  • Provide down payment assistance for first time homebuyers.
  • Credit Counseling.
  • Homebuyer education classes.

Beginning June 1, 2015, the City of Vicksburg will be enforcing the 2012 International Building code, International Residential Code, International Fuel Gas Code, International Plumbing Code, International Mechanical Code, International Existing Building Code, International Property Maintenance Code and the 2011 National Electrical Code.
