We strive to provide a professional Building and Inspection Division that offers a comprehensive plan review procedure and inspection process for all new construction and a thorough residential and non-residential inspection process for all existing buildings in an effort to improve the quality and livability of the built environment.

To work diligently towards the aesthetic and environmental improvements of all neighborhoods which in turn improve the quality of life and increase property values.

The Building and Inspection Division is divided into four departments.

Building & Inspection Code Department
Zoning & Privilege License Inspection Department
Historic Preservation Department
Community Planning Department

Services Provided by the Building & Inspection Code Department

Provide a comprehensive plan review procedure for all new construction.
Provide a thorough inspection process for all residential and non-residential structures.
Enforcement of the Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance.
Enforcement of the Felony Dumping Law.
Enforcement of the Dumpster Enclosure Ordinance.
Enforcement of other City ordinances’ that impact the aesthetic and environmental quality of the City of Vicksburg.

Services Provided by the Zoning & Privilege License Inspection Department

Enforcement and interpretation of the zoning ordinance.
Issuance of privilege license.
Site inspections related to the issuance of a privilege license.
Maintain the zoning ordinance.
Serve as secretariat to the Zoning Board.

Services Provided by the Historic Preservation Department

Maintenance of the Historic Preservation Ordinance.
Enforcement and interpretation of the Historic Preservation Ordinance.
Serve as the secretariat to the Board of Architectural Review (BOAR).

Services Provided by the Community Planning Department

Maintains the Comprehensive Plan, Capital Improvements Programs, and Subdivision Regulations. Community Planning is a key component in the administration of public policy for the orderly growth and physical development of the City.

As of December 23, 2011, the City of Vicksburg will be enforcing the 2009 International Building Code, International Residential Code, International Fuel Gas Code, International Plumbing Code, International Mechanical Code, International Existing Building Code, International Property Maintenance Code and the 2008 National Electrical Code.
